"Champion”by Shawn Johnson (USA gymnastics star, and Lana's idol)You fear the loss and pain of defeat,But still are able to stand on two feet. You crumble and cry as much as you want,But nothing can keep you away from the hunt. This is what you’ve been working for,The pride and honor as you take to the floor. You remember the struggles and pain you hadWhen all the good had turned to bad. When behind the scenes you crumbled and prayedFor it all to simply just go away. The doubt and regrets of what you went throughSometimes just made you want to give it to The next girl in line that had gave it her all,But always seemed to carry a fall. You remember the times when you thought to give up,But could never find a reason to disruptAnything and everything that you had given to the sport,The hearts desire, and all the support. But when the pressure builds and tears you apart,How are you able to not depart. How are you able to still carry a smileWhen everything inside is in a pile. You hold your head high and never look back,Because this is what keeps you all intact. It’s what runs in your veins, and it’s the key to your heart. And it’s only the beginning, only the start .
It holds a future that could never be told. One that can shine with the brightest of gold. The sky is its limitsAnd with the moon as its guide,As no one could ever predict how highOne could travel with the hard work put inTo truly become a champion. No, we don't know her. Lana just loves watching videos of her and has told us that someday she will be great like Shawn Johnson. Lana has a dream, and we support her with it. This summer we moved her to two gymnastic classes a week. She told us Monday that gymnastics is her favorite. Already she can hold a hand-stand straight for 5 seconds, do cartwheels, bridge and raise a foot, perform a back walk-over from a bridge, backwards somersaults, jump over objects on the balance beam, and swing on the uneven bars. (Don't know where the Summer Olympics 2020 will be held, but you never know....Lana will be just shy of 16.) Her gymastics instructors joke with her about being the next Shawn Johnson.
It was fun at practice on Monday at a make-up class when the mother of a girl
in Lana's class was bragging about how good her daughter was. This mother said that since her daughter turned
6, everything has just "clicked". I agreed with her that her daughter was doing good. After awhile this mother asked me who my daughter was. I pointed out the pint-sized girl wearing a hot pink sequin leotard.
This mother said, "She's cute, how old is she?"
I said, "Three, turning four in a month."
Well, this mom starting watching Lana when they were doing handstands and soon was saying "Wow! She's got natural talent, Amazing!"
(I didn't hear her brag about her child again)
